In 1978 Neal Mingo began repairing the interiors of cars primarily for Auto Dealers from Ogden to Salt Lake City. Always willing to think outside the box and experiment with new procedures, Neal continued improving and refining his skills.
In the late '80s Neal was asked to attempt repairs on newly developed plastic painted bumper covers. Before long he was refinishing bumpers for auto dealers, growing his reputation as an honest and skilled individual. It is that reputation that made Mingo's Complete Auto Appearance Shop possible.
In 1993 Neal's son Justin began his own business repairing auto interiors, following in his fathers footsteps. Due to changing business and economic times, Mingo's chose to close the doors of their 33rd street facility in the spring of 2010. But the tradition of quality interior repairs performed as a mobile operation lives on. Justin operates as Justin Mingo's Auto, Boat and Furniture Reconditioning. The same quality, ingenuity, attention to detail and customer service that Neal started in 1978 is alive and well. And the Core Values and Vision that Mingo's Compete Auto Appearance Shop built has not diminished. How durable is leather repair and refinishing?
Much depends on usage. Just as the factory leather wore out over time, the repair that I perform will also wear over time. But I've found that the refinish lasts about as long as the original finish.
How can I extend the life of my leather interior?
Leather surfaces have two main enemies: Sun and friction. The UV rays from sun cause discoloration, drying and cracking of most vehicle interior surfaces. Reducing sun exposure will add years of life to your interior.
Friction from sliding in and out of your vehicle reduces the life of your seats. If you have a truck or SUV try to use the running boards (if installed) when entering and exiting the vehicle. In cars, the outer bolster of the seat back takes the brunt of the friction. Try to minimize how much you slide across the bolster by moving your seat back before entering the car.
Do cigarette burn repairs wear well?
Much like leather repair, much will depend of usage. In high wear areas the burn repair's appearance will diminish with time.
Can you repair dash boards?
Yes. But if the crack originates from a vent or the windshield due to age, it is unlikely the repair will be durable. Cracks from other damage hold up quite well.
